KMT Selected for Diversity in ITT Project to Boost Ethnic Minority Teacher Recruitment

Diversity in ITT

KMT is pleased to announce its selection for the Diversity in Initial Teacher Training (ITT) project, a collaborative initiative with the Chartered College of Teaching, Chiltern Learning Trust, and Being Luminary, funded by Mission 44.

The project, supported by Mission 44’s Diversity in Education Fund, aims to increase the acceptance and completion rates of ethnic minority teacher training applicants. The Chartered College of Teaching invited accredited School-Centred Initial Teacher Training providers to participate in a coaching support program focused on addressing unconscious bias and inequitable application and assessment processes.

KMT will receive targeted coaching support to enhance its recruitment and training practices. This will be complemented by a comprehensive online training program accessible to all KMT staff, induction tutors, mentors, leaders, and placement school personnel.

Participation in this project will also integrate KMT into a network of providers dedicated to tackling inequities in ITT recruitment and retention. This collaborative effort seeks to grow a more diverse and representative teaching workforce.

“We are delighted to be part of this crucial initiative,” said Polly Butterfield-Tracey, Head of KMT. “This project aligns with our commitment to creating a more inclusive and equitable environment for aspiring teachers. We look forward to working with the Chartered College of Teaching and other partners to make a real difference across the region we serve.”
