Postgraduate Teacher Apprenticeships
What is a Postgraduate Teacher Apprenticeship?
The Postgraduate Teacher Apprenticeship (PGTA) is a Government funded work-based training programme for people who already hold an undergraduate degree and meet the ITT criteria.
Postgraduate Teacher Apprentices earn a salary as part of their professional training as they work towards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and an Apprenticeship End Point Assessment (EPA) qualification.
Apprentices will be based in your schools for the duration of their apprenticeship, spending at least four days per week in the classroom.
Apprentices attend weekly central-based sessions with KMT and will be supported by KMT and their school-based mentor to integrate their learning into practice.

What are the benefits for my school?
For a school, apprenticeships are a great way to build a skilled and motivated workforce and allow you to build a future talent pipeline, skilled in your educational environment.
The duration of the Postgraduate Teacher Apprenticeship is 15 months. This is made up of the QTS element (12 months) and the End Point Assessment element (3 months) which takes place during the first 3 months of the apprentice’s ECT year.
Apprenticeships require a commitment from you as an organisation and when done right, the reward is incredible for both the school and the apprentice.
Offering the Postgraduate Teacher Apprenticeship (PGTA)
Schools can offer Postgraduate Teaching Apprenticeships for prospective primary and secondary school teachers.
Teacher apprentices can be employed in a variety of settings (for example academy schools, maintained schools, independent schools and SEND schools)
Duration: 15 months (12 Months to QTS + 3 Months EPA)
Entry Requirements
GCSE Maths & English at grade C/4 (or equivalent), grade C/4 in a science subject (if training to teach pupils aged 5-11), and a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent).
Applicants without GCSEs can complete equivalency tests.
